Download ORBIS
Minimum
- — macOS 13 Ventura
- — Apple Silicon (M1 or later)
- — 8 GB RAM
- — 5 GB free disk
Recommended
- — macOS 14+
- — Apple Silicon M1+
- — 16 GB RAM (for on-device MLX)
- — A language model — see below
Installation
- 1 Download the .dmg above.
- 2 Open it and drag ORBIS to Applications.
- 3 Launch ORBIS — allow microphone access when prompted.
- 4 First launch unpacks the runtime and on-device voice models — about 3 GB, once. ORBIS can sit on “Starting ORBIS…” for a few minutes while it does. That is normal, not a hang.
- 5 The setup wizard walks through your mic, your voice, and connecting a language model.
ORBIS brings the voice. You bring the model.
Speech is fully on-device — ORBIS hears you with Parakeet and speaks with Kokoro, and neither sends audio anywhere. The language model is yours to choose, so the setup wizard will ask you to connect one before ORBIS can hold a conversation.
- — Local and free — the wizard can install Ollama and pull a model for you. Nothing leaves your Mac.
- — Already running LM Studio, vLLM, or MLX? The wizard finds local endpoints automatically.
- — Any OpenAI-compatible API — paste the URL and your key.
Signed & notarized by Apple — opens cleanly, no Gatekeeper workarounds. ORBIS is in public beta; expect rough edges and frequent updates.
